Work will be considered INCOMPLETE if it does not reach a 3 or 4 on the skills rubric, is missing photos, or doesn't fully answer questions. Work will be given a grade of 1 - 4 based on the below writing rubric
Writing Rubric
4 - My reflection is detailed, thorough, thoughtful and is written in well composed reflective sentences. It shows evidence of my reflective thinking because specific examples are used showing my learning process, risks, achievements and failures I encountered. I used specific art vocabulary effectively. My pictures provide clear evidence to support my writing.
Examples:
“For this project I used oil pastels, and ended up gaining more proficiency than I had before. I learned that
you can use the burnishing technique with oil pastels, too. Not only does this make the colors look more
vibrant but it also blends better if you apply it in layers. Using this technique, I colored the flamingos pink
with peach, yellow, red and white pastels. They blended well and and gave the flamingos a natural color.”
“I learned many new techniques and processes while doing the sphere warm-up. I learned how to shade
the whole sphere the local color, and then layer on colors to give the sphere more depth. The darkest color
is the core shadow, and the lightest color is around the sphere's highlight. I also learned how to layer
colors on top of one another in order to get the value that you need. I gained skill with colored pencils
because I learned how the amount of weight you put on the pencil determines how dark the shading is.”
3 - My artist statement is thoughtful and written using art vocabulary. I used complete sentences and included examples of my learning process, risks, achievements, and failures. My pictures provide evidence to support my writing.
Example:
“My art is original because I took an idea I found on Pinterest and made it my own by changing the fish to
a bird. I also included a sunset for the background instead of solid black like the original because I wanted
to include a beach theme. I used a picture I took on a family trip for the sunrise, which made the drawing
even more my own because the photo was my work”.
2 - My reflection is written in complete sentences. It shows some evidence of thinking but could use more specific examples and more thoughtful reflection. My writing shows some understanding of art vocabulary. My pictures are related to what I am writing but don't provide clear evidence or relation to my writing.
Example:
“My art was original. I found a picture of a seagull to use as inspiration but I changed things. This made my
art my own.”
1 - My reflection seems rushed and doesn't show evidence of thinking and reflecting. My answers are too short, lacking detail, or incomplete. I didn't use art vocabulary or I didn't show evidence that I understand the words I used. My pictures aren't connected to my writing.
Example:
“My art is original because I did it. I came up with the ideas and that makes it my own. I’m really happy
with my work.”
